If you are a homeowner considering an extension to your house you have until 30th May to take advantage of the government’s relaxation of permitted development rights. Since 2013, single storey rear extensions, for semi-detached and detached house have doubled by 6m and 8m respectively, without requiring planning permission. After 30th May permitted development rights for rear extensions will be reduced to the previous allowance of 3m and 4m. Even though planning permission is not required, a Prior Notification Form will need to be submitted to the local authority to inform them of your intention to exercise permitted development rights.

Planning application was submitted for Heatherwood Close at Wanstead. This distinctive 1970s house is part of a small housing development of terraced houses in North London.
