The house was originally commissioned by our clients and built in 2002. After living in the house for nearly two decades they approached us with the brief to improve the layout of the kitchen and dining area as it suffered from lack of daylight and space.
Our solution was to create an infill side/rear extension that would allow for a large open plan area containing an enlarged kitchen and dining area with a snug that spanned the full width of the rear elevation. We also created a link between the new space and the sitting room.
The scheme maximises the orientation of the site, and natural light, via two large openings with minimal frame sliding doors and two strategically positioned rooflights. To compensate for the thermal loss through the glazing, the insulation within the building fabric was increased beyond current Building Regulations and an Air Source Heat Pump was installed.
The project is due to be completed in early 2022 by the contractor Marshall and Mace.
