Located on the corner of St Thomas Street and Three Queens Lane, the building forms an L-shaped plan that provides an active street frontage and a shared private courtyard at the rear.
As part of an eleven-block masterplan scheme, the project required close co-ordination with the consultant team, statutory authorities and client. As the site is located in a Conservation Area, one of the most challenging aspects of the design process was to create an urban form of living that responded to the area’s industrial and artisan heritage.
Consequently, the dense form and extensive use of brick and decorative metal balustrades became a key feature of the design. The latest building technology was also integrated into the design in the form of a blue roof and renewable energy sources.
Once completed the scheme will have brought back to life this once neglected and derelict part of the city centre. The project was undertaken by LSH Architects with Mark as a project architect.
