The layout of the original house had outgrown the lifestyle of the client. The brief was to reconfigure the ground floor space and create extra space that would suit the needs of a young family. Due to the large trees of the Wanstead Flats restricting daylight to the rear of the property, the front of the house and the under used front garden were identified as the areas to extend and reconfigure.
The proposal centres on a new open plan kitchen with a snug area, which takes the form of a single storey extension. The new addition is also carefully integrated into a new landscape design for the front garden, that encloses the open garden with hedging for privacy and planting/grass to replace the unattractive crazy paving.
The new extension includes a roof lantern for extra light and contemporary detailing such as a curved wall, protruding brickwork and full height windows to soften the appearance and add visual interest. The proposal maintains the distinctive catslide rooflines of the terrace, which was identified as key design feature by the planning authority.
Once completed the project will have transformed the house and created a new space for the family to enjoy.
The proposal will transform the house into an exciting family home befitting of its location and current lifestyle trends
