MJH's proposal was based on maximizing the existing built form by upgrading and converting the under used space of the garage and conservatory. As the rear of the house has been extended with a conservatory the next step to improving the energy efficiency of teh house was to convert the space into a sunroom with cavity walls and a warm roof deck.
The internal layout was divided into rooms that were disconnected, for instance the kitchen and dining areas were separated by the living area. To remedy this relationship, MJH proposed moving the kitchen to the front so the dining and living areas faced out onto the private space of the rear garden. The conversion of the garage to a home office/study will add habitable floor space to the house that will provide more flexibility for changing lifestyle patterns.
Externally, the cramped porch will be removed to help create a new contemporary appearance taht integrates the converted garage and front entrance with an extended canopy. To complement the the new modifications the existing windows will be replaced with an olive green finish.
